Saturday Sweets: Donuts! Fest Returns For Its Second Year

The Winning "Golden Donut": Holy Cannoli Donut from Mojo Donuts

Last year was the “Year of the Donut”, and while I haven’t figured out what this year’s biggest dessert trend is yet – it’s safe to say the donut craze is still very much alive.

This week the 2nd Annual Donuts! Fest presented by Vine PR took place at MAPS Backlot in Wynwood. Donuts from all over Miami Dade and Broward were present along with long lines of hungry donut lovers.

Donut Fest Miami

Donuts ranged in varieties of classic brand names including Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Donuts, to healthier options from Crave Clean with protein packed donuts and Helen & Meyers with their house made Hibiscus Lime Glazed with Pineapple Ginger Drizzle.

Yonutz from Sunrise was back for round two (they were a favorite of mine last year) as well as Circus Eats – previously known as Donut Divas, and reigning champions Mojo Donuts, who has since opened a Miami location on Bird Road and 87th Avenue.

The One Donut Company Jupiter Florida

Newcomers Jupiter Donuts and The One Donut Company were delicious additions to the all-around sweet event.

Neighboring Concrete Beach Brewery was on hand with their beer to help cut the sweetness of the sugary donuts. Lines were long but the DJ’s playlist was enough to help forget about the wait. After about two hours of full on donut feasting, vendors began giving out to go boxes as guests were too full to continue eating.

The winner of this year’s Golden Donut Award was Mojo Donuts for the 2nd year in a row. Their Holy Cannoli was my favorite of the evening; it was huge and filled to the brim with cannoli cream. Another stand out donut was the Mango Cayenne Pepper Donut from Jupiter Donuts. It was full of kick and so spicy I had to chug my beer, but I loved it.

While the turnout of attendees was much bigger this year, I was disappointed to see there were fewer local vendors than last year.

Looking forward to seeing how year three turns out next year!
