Weekly Nibble Miami: Memorial Day BBQ @PAMM, ella opens, db Bistro Moderne Wine Dinner, StripSteak and Penfolds, OBIES

Thursday May 21- The Genuine Hospitality Group and chef-owner Michael Schwartz are pleased to announce the opening of ella, a café popping up this week in the Design District’s Palm Court and open through spring and summer. Named after Schwartz’s eldest daughter, ella is a light and simple spot serving breakfast, lunch, and late afternoon food and drink accessible to locals, shoppers and visitors to the neighborhood. The café is the first time The Genuine Hospitality Group offers breakfast in the Design District. ella is located in the Design District’s Palm Court, 140 NE 39th Street, Space 136 and will be open from 9am to 7pm on Monday to Saturday and 12pm to 5pm on Sunday.

Monday May 25th- PAMM will open on Monday, May 25, 2015, for a special Memorial Day celebration on the museum’s Biscayne Bay-front terrace, enjoy outdoor BBQ specials from Chef Kaytlin Brakefield and Verde with $5 beer and wine specials and live music by indie bluegrass group “The Wynwoods.” PAMM’s Memorial Day celebration is open to the public, and general museum admission rates apply ($16 adults). Admission is free for all active duty, National Guard and Reserve military personnel and their families. Those who arrive by Metromover will also receive free admission. The Memorial Day celebration, live entertainment and outdoor BBQ will run from 1-4pm, and galleries will open from 10am-6pm. Arrival by free Miami-Dade Metromover is recommended for special events due to increased expected visitation. 

Monday May 25th- Daniel Serfer's Comfort Food outpost, Blue Collar in MiMo will be extending their insanely delicious weekend brunch to Monday in celebration of Memorial Day. Guests can enjoy their favorite dishes from the comfort of MiMo such as the Duck “McMuffin” ($19), Lemon Ricotta Pancakes ($15) and Pulled Pork Benedict ($16).  Blue Collar  6730 Biscayne Blvd. Brunch is available from 11AM to 3:30PM. Wednesday May 27th- db Bistro Moderne’s Chef Jason Pringle and sommelier Alan Feldman welcome Abe Schoener of Scholium Project Wines  for  a  four-course meal paired with Scholium Project signature wines. Scholium Project produces wines from obscure vineyards throughout Northern California, and are extremely limited in production. Tickets are $85 per person (plus tax and gratuity.  Reception 7 pm. Thursday May 28th- Fontainebleau’s StripSteak by Michael Mina, will play host to a special dinner with pairings from iconic Australian winery, Penfolds. Diners will enjoy a five-course menu prepared by chef de cuisine , Derrick Roberts, complemented by wines hand-selected and presented by DLynn Proctor, Penfolds Ambassador and Master Sommelier candidate. Friday May 29th- Siena Tavern’s chef, Fabio Viviani, has been selected as this year’s Celebrity Chef for the Orange Bowl Impact and Excellence Awards (The OBIES): A Taste of South Florida presented by Florida Blue. The event takes place on Friday, May 29, 2015 at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center at 7:30 p.m. The OBIES : A Taste of South Florida features a night of food, entertainment and giving as the Orange Bowl Committee celebrates those who share organization’s values in giving back to the South Florida community. Many of the area's top culinary chefs and restaurants will serve their best bites for the chance to be named Flavor of South Florida. At this year’s event, approximately $100,000 will be given back to the South Florida community. Proceeds from The OBIES: A Taste of South Florida presented by Florida Blue will go toward Make-A-Wish Southern Florida, Special Olympics Florida and the Orange Bowl Leadership Academy.
