Casual New England fare at The Lobster Shack in South Pointe

Spring Break on Miami Beach is here and for all you visitors and locals alike we’re happy to report that there are more options than just Joe’s Stone Crab and Prime Fish in Miami Beach for seafood fare. The Lobster Shack, which is conveniently located south of Fifth next to South Pointe Tavern, and 1/2 a block off the beach is serving up live Maine lobsters and so much more in a laid-back and relaxed restaurant.

Owners Paul Thielecke and Chris Lingenfelser set out on a mission to serve delicious, affordable food and to create a restaurant where guests can enjoy a great meal with family and friends. They’ve done exactly that and managed to bring New England to Miami. After many visits up north following New England fisherman making treks on the offshore boats to ply the waters for fresh lobsters and other edible jewels of the sea, and testing all of the popular lobster roll establishments and New England beers, Paul & Chris found the secrets to creating the perfect lobster roll and other New England staples and have replicated it in Miami at their restaurant on South Pointe Drive.

From raw bar selections to include East Coast Oysters, stone crabs and tuna to their selection of hearty and delicious soups (we’re fanatical about the New England Clam Chowder) and salads, Lobster Shack’s menu features lots of starters to get your meal started on the right foot.

The Lobster Shack’s Lobster rolls are a thing of beauty, and guests who visit can select from eight different styles. Traditionalists won’t be disappointed with the classic cold lobster roll or the naked lobster roll, which is served with warm butter. If you’re looking to spice it up, the Cajun lobster roll with Cajun seasoning and sauce and the spicy lobster roll with jalapeño slaw and fresh jalapeños are great options. The Lobster Shack also created the South Beach roll, which features bacon, avocado and jalapeno as a homage to South Beach. We also recommend the Poseidon roll, which features lobster, king crab, blackened shrimp and Cajun sauce for those big-time seafood aficionados. All rolls are served on a toasted bun just like up North.

The Lobster Shack’s entrees are not just a great value, but feature fresh flavorful seafood flown in straight from New England. Enjoy a 1 ½ pound live main lobster with drawn butter and one side for just $24.95.

The Lobster Shack boasts the only live lobster tank on Miami Beach, where every month over 600 gallons of salt water is shipped in from off the coast of Maine.

The menu also features a jumbo snow crab dinner with two extra-large clusters (with or without Old Bay seasoning) and a side for just $29.95. The king crab dinner includes 1 lb. of steamed and cracked crab with a side.

Not much of a lobster fan? The fish tacos, blackened shrimp tacos, and seared tuna tacos are sure to do the job. We recommend order a taco sampler to try one of each taco. You also can’t go wrong with the fish in a bag, which features their catch of the day baked in parchment paper with tomato, onion, jalapeno and Monterey jack cheese. Their land lover menu also features cheeseburgers and 100% all beef hot dogs.

The bar features a television to stay updated on all of the latest games, a frozé machine for refreshing frozen rosé, exclusive New England Shipyard and Seadog beers on tap plus a selection of seasonal and special brews on draft as well. The Lobster Shack also has an affordable selection of great bubbles and wines.

Enjoy a slice of key lime pie and/or homemade chocolate chip cookies to finish the meal with on a sweet note.

With so many great menu items at affordable prices, a friendly staff, and a convenient location, dine inside or out or order take out to take home or to the beach for your fix of year-round New England seafood in a family-friendly atmosphere.
