Hummus Happiness at Dizengoff(CLOSED) in Wynwood

One hot spot in Wynwood isn’t enough for James Beard Award-winning chef Michael Solomonov and his partner Steven Cook. The CooknSolo gang now have two Miami spots "side by side" as they’ve brought their popular fast casual hummus concept to Miami with Dizengoff.

Dizengoff is named after one of Tel Aviv’s busiest streets and is reminiscent of the hummus stalls that can be found all over Israel. There are three other Dizengoff locations, in New York City's Chelsea Market and two in Philadelphia.

The Miami location has seating for about 15 or so and the decor is fun and bright with a red countertop, bright orange seating and Israeli street posters covering the walls.

The menu is simple and straightforward offering several different kinds of hummus and fluffy fresh pitas. There’s the Corn Masabacha with chickpeas and tehina or the Lamb Merguez that’s served with cabbage, chopped Israeli salad and pickles. On Sundays, Dizengoff serves Shakshuka - a North African dish consisting of eggs baked in a spicy tomato and pepper stew. Rumor has it, there is only about 30 portions of it made each week and they sell out within the first 2 hours.

Each dish is served in hearty portions that make having just hummus as a meal perfectly acceptable (if you’re still hungry pop over to Solomonov's Federal Donuts next door for fried chicken and dessert.) The hummus bowls are large, so it’s recommended to order an extra pita or two. You can also order a few sides like the Israeli-style vegetable salads. Make sure you don’t miss out on the Lemonada, a Israeli frozen mint lemonade, it’s light and refreshing - exactly what you’ll need to walk the streets of Wynwood. There is also draft beer and Israeli wine available on the menu.
