Dominique Ansel brings Soft Serve to Art Basel

Santa Claus is coming to town.  Well, not quite, but James Beard Award winning pastry chef, Dominique Ansel is arriving for a two day stint at The Setai for an Art Basel Soft Ice Cream pop up on Wednesday 12/2 and Thursday 12/3.

Just in In case you don’t know, Dominique Ansel is the chef and owner of Dominique Ansel Bakery in New York City. Since its opening in November of 2011, the chef’s eponymous bakery was awarded Time Out New York’s “Best New Bakery of 2012” and Metromix’s “Best Bakery of 2012”, all within four months of opening its doors. Today, it is also Zagat 2013’s highest ranked bakery and listed as one of the Best Bakeries in the U.S. by Daily Meal.

In 2014, Chef Ansel won the James Beard Award for “Outstanding Pastry Chef” of the nation and was one of Crain’s “40 Under 40″. In 2013, he was named one of Business Insider’s “Most Innovative people Under 40”.

BUT, perhaps what has most widely been reported is Chef’s creation of the Cronut™, a croissant and doughnut hybrid that has been reported on throughout the world.

It is also the first pastry to have been so in demand, it sells of up to 20x its retail price on the black market. TIME Magazine named it one of the 25 Best Inventions of 2013. The Chef’s various other inventions, including his Frozen S’more, Magic Soufflé, Cookie Shot, and Waffle Affogato — all of which have fast become popular treats with international fame.

On any given day, neither rain nor snow nor dark of night prevent the lines from forming around the block to get into his bakery at 189 Spring St. NYC.

So it can be expected that the line for his soft serve popup may have already begun to form.

True to his innovative style, this won’t be just ANY soft serve, no Tom Carvel here.

Chef Dominique has created two delicious flavors for his inaugural Miami pop-up:

Caramel Stout Soft Serve

Chocolate “Caviar”

Sea Salt Brownie

AND

Burrata Soft Serve

Balsamic Caramel

Confit Strawberry & Microbasil

Super creamy and made with fresh milk (as opposed to a mix or a powder) and high quality ingredients, each flavor is served in a homemade, hand-rolled honey tuile cone and retails for $7.00.

The Dominique Ansel x The Setai pop-up soft serve window will be open from 12pm-12am from Wednesday, December 2nd to Thursday, December 3rd (or until sold out).
