What I ATE: MIAbites Contributors report

If you follow any of our MIAbites Contributors on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook, you are constantly bombarded with some pretty amazing pictures of food and drink that has been consumed, it seems almost endlessly.

How can anyone eat and drink ALL that food and go to ALL those places?

Well Our Contributors do, from evenings out with friends, to lunches at favorite classic spots, to events hosted by restaurants, fellow bloggers and spirit purveyors.  It is hard to keep up and so as a special MIAbites feature we bring you....

What I ATE...

Allison Riley- @YallTasteThis

Mangos!  It's mango season, and thankfully I have a friend with a tree that just keeps giving.  In one weekend alone, we feasted on mango gallette, wild rice and mango salad, jalapenos stuffed with mango-scallion goat cheese, and mango chutney.

I will never understand those people that leave the crust behind when eating pizza. That’s the best part! Never is this truer than when having a Star Luca from Visa 01 in Miami Beach. This invention by world-champion master pizza chef Renato Viola, consists of star shaped pie topped with creamy ricotta cheese, pepperoni, mozzarella and san marzano sauce. The edges of the star are stuffed with ricotta, pepperoni and sauce, which will turn any crust non-believers into serious fans!

It was a wonderfully difficult week to name a "best" as I ate at Blue Collar, Harry's Pizzeria and Josh's Deli (twice). So by virtue of the "twice in one week" rule, the winner has to be Josh's Delicatessen in Surfside. When I went for late lunch they had sold out of the octopus and grits, so I ordered my favorite sandwich, "the Jewban". On Sunday morning my patience was rewarded as I returned to find the baby octopus and grits available AND with the bonus inclusion of gooseneck barnacles! Yahtzee! I could eat there twice a week for years on end...

Despite it having more than 70 items on the menu, Cake Thai also stores a few specials aimed at adventurous regulars such as myself. This tender pork belly curry with a Tamarind base struck all the right notes, and the added morning glory plus sweet pepper vegetables complemented it well.

Brunch at 27 Restaurant is almost like a food trip around the World.  Shashuka from Israel; Gravy and Biscuits from the South and my favorite this visit,  Huevos Motulenos from Mexico with both red and green Chile sauce with a Red Bloody Mary with Kimchi from Korea.

Nestled away from the main street in Wynwood, the area's newest addition does not need any flashy signs to attract attention. Alter recently opened its doors to South Florida and has already attracted a buzz. It takes fresh ingredients to a whole new level with their herb garden located at the back of the restaurant. Chef Bradley Kilgore, formerly Executive Chef at J&G Grill,  utilizes the very best ingredients from local farms located in Homestead. The restaurant itself is wide open with an open kitchen as well. The décor is a cross between rustic, industrial, artsy and home-y. Everyone from the manager to the server to the busboy greets you with a smile. An extensive wine list and full bar is available.  The food is wonderfully executed and presentation is on point. It can be described as casual yet refined. This farm-to-table concept is a welcomed addition to the growing Wynwood culinary community. Everything I had was delicious and perfectly prepared and presented and include the Ceviche Crudo, Short Ribs, Grouper Cheeks and Pot a Crème for dessert.  I totally fell in love with Alter and it's one of my fave places now. Reminds me of LA places.

A trip to Washington, CT included lunch at the Relais & Chateau inn, The Mayflower Inn, the epitome of Yankee chic.  Lunch in their restaurant overlooking the formal garden included a delicious salad nicoise, complete with perfectly seared sushi grade tuna, new potatoes, heirloom tomatoes, hard boiled egg, green beans and local garden grown lettuces and herbs.  Summer visiting in the hills of Litchfield County is quite special.
