Greenhaven Project Fall Planting Day Saturday 10/30 X Food Rescue US South Florida

On Saturday, October 30, join Greenhaven Project Urban Farm in Overtown for their Fall Planting Day event with plant-based food, activities for the kids, workshops on urban gardening, harvesting, and information on community resiliency.

Earlier this month, a 40 foot graffiti art decorated shipping container was converted into a shelved storage area by California Closets Miami in collaboration with Food Rescue US South Florida and will be used by the Greenhaven Project for storage and as a food pantry stocked with free nonperishable items rescued and donated by Food Rescue US South Florida.

“ We are very excited to partner with Greenhaven Project and California Closets to create a food pantry for the community of Overtown. Food Rescue US is a nonprofit that rescues unsold and unused food from area markets like Trader Joes, Whole Foods and Milams and direct transfers to local shelters, pantries and food insecure”. “ The Greenhaven Project Pantry will be the first food pantry in Overtown and free food will be available for anyone in need”, said Ellen Bowen, MIAbites founder and Site Director for Food Rescue US.

Of special note is the on-site location of the The Adrienne Arsht-Rockefeller Foundation Resilience Center's Pod, a special shipping container that is educational, interactive, and shares information about climate, sea-level rise, resiliency, and food insecurity. The Adrienne Arsht-Rockefeller Foundation Resilience Center(AARFRC) is one of fourteen centers under The Atlantic Council and their pod has been featured at Zoo Miami and Town Hall.
