What started as a MIAbites philanthropic outreach for the culinary community to reduce food waste and feed the hungry started by Founder and Editor, Ellen Bowen, has grown to include daily food donations from multiple hotels, restaurants, markets and even from this years NFL Experience and Super Bowl LIV.

Over the past year, using an app, Food Rescue US – Miami has provided 250,000 meals and kept 300,000 pounds of food from landfills where decomposing food produces more harmful methane gas then auto emissions. Food rescued from Super Bowl LIV and related events will be delivered to Miami Rescue Mission, Broward Outreach Center, Broward Partnership for the Homeless, Lotus House Shelter, and Camillus House.

Food Rescue US, is a National non-profit and its participation in this year’s Super Bowl is a first for the organization and they are well prepared for the massive amounts of food that will be unused/unsold from food donor partner Centerplate Hospitality, including at their VIP Clubs, Owners Boxes, and other onsite events.

“With the scale of an event like the Super Bowl, we always prepare plenty of food, and I’m pleased to continue our partnership with Food Rescue US – Miami to deliver any surplus to local social service agencies feeding the hungry in our community,” said Chef Dayanny de la Cruz, Executive Chef of Centerplate at Hard Rock Stadium. “Our Centerplate team is proud to give back to the communities we serve, and to ensure that the meals we create can also support those in need, thanks to the efforts of the volunteer food rescue teams.”
