dōma: A taste of Southern Italy and Greece in Wynwood

As I wandered past the graffiti decorated walls and colorful side streets of Wynwood, I marveled at the constant evolution of what was once a vacant warehouse district...the addition of new galleries, shops and buzzy eateries.

My destination this evening was the distinctive black and white striped exterior of, dōma. This Southern Italian inspired restaurant recently celebrated its first birthday and has proven to be a favorite in the neighborhood.

As an invited guest for a food blogger roundtable, I was greeted with warm hospitality that was consistent throughout the evening. The open concept kitchen offered sights, sounds, and aromas that served as a delightful background. The eye is drawn the impressively extensive wine collection housed in a  large, modern case.

The spacious dining room opens into an inviting patio with beautiful lighting and charming foliage. The cocktail menu dazzled us with an extensive array of libations made up of fresh ingredients and spirits.

Owner and General Manager, Luca Lomanaco shortly joined us and presented starters that served as a delicious preview.

Luca hails from Southern Italy and in addition to a myriad of culinary experiences from locations including New York and London, Luca obtained certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers.

Executive Chef Marco Giugliano's training includes working with some of the best chefs in both his native Italy and in Greece.

The dishes we shared were creatively plated and delicious.

The Zucchini Flowers Tempura were light and crispy on the outside, with a  creamy spot of ricotta.

The Organic Heirloom Salad was light and so fresh, blending sweet and tart.

The Soft Egg dish was sensational with a blend of mushroom, Parmesan and crispy potato and topped with freshly shaved truffles.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Whole Branzino. The fish is artfully baked and sheathed in a dough crust and served table-side.

Everyone at the table commented that the dish was the most flavorful they had ever tasted. The Grilled Octopus was a beautiful dish, both colorful and so tasty, and the pastas...handmade ravioli, tagliolini-WOW. Light, fresh and substantial.

Dessert was a kaleidoscope of loveliness including mixed berries, and fresh tiramisu plated in that beautiful dōma way. It mirrored the colorful Wynwood Art District.
