Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican Army's victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla, on May 5, 1862. However, in the United States Cinco de Mayo has become a popular day of drinking to celebrate Mexican culture.

This year, grab your sombrero and raise your cervezas and/or margarita glasses at the following Cinco de Mayo Celebrations:

Taquiza

All three locations will host fiestas for Cinco de Mayo featuring various deals, specialty drinks and extras like mariachis, sugar skull face painting and folklórico dance performances. This year, Taquiza is also “popping up” at Itamae at St. Roch Market for a fourth location on Cinco de Mayo. Don’t miss Taquiza’s Chef Steve Santana who will join Pez’s Chef Miguel Gomez and Itamae chefs Val and Nando Chang for Mexican-Japanese-inspired dishes at their pop-up starting at 1 p.m.  If you are feeling festive, we also suggest you head over to their location at The Citadel because when you buy a “Carnitas” taco, you will unlock a taquiza-made Tequila Avoion specialty cocktail, poured inside a keepsake prayer candle vessel. Stop by the South Beach location for a shot of Cazadores Tequila + Tecate Beer for only $8. Guests at this location will also enjoy samples of Cazadores and other fun giveaways, plus a specialty Cazadores Tequila cocktail (beautifully mastered by Taquiza Head Bartender Damon Roseberry) for $10. There will also be live mariachi + karaoke (AKA – KARIACHI!!) with the host with the most, “Bassfunkdaddy,” from 1 to 4 p.m.
