RED South Beach: Miami Spice for Everyone

Chef Peter Vauthy at RED SoBe

Situated in a sexy new space in the South Of Fifth neighborhood, RED South Beach is poised for the marvelous Miami Spice months starting this Sunday, August 1st.

I look forward to Miami Spice each year, it’s a perfect occasion to satisfy my inner foodie and explore the diverse cultures and cuisines Miami has to offer without breaking the bank. Lunch at $28 and Dinner at $42 is a much welcome benefit.

Executive Chef Peter Vauthy’s uniquely curated weekly themed menus had me wowed with an abundance of choices. From “Classic Steakhouse” to “Seafood” to “Italian”, culminating with “RED’s Greatest Hits”.

Every dish is a fresh twist on the classic staples, and that is what makes RED an amazing find. Peter knows his food. From the buttery mild with peppery finish olive oil to dip warm bread in, to a 25-year-old aged balsamic drizzled on the burrata salad with ripe heirloom tomatoes (from the Italian menu) he “has a guy” for every delicacy that adds a special authentic touch to make your visit extraordinary.

Walking in through the new elegant outdoor seating space, I was invited to dine along with 12 like-minded dinner companions. This place is all about celebrating deliciousness. And it showed, at what this foodie girl can only call a feast of taste buds.

My dinner started with a specialty cocktail called Chef’s Medicine - tequila & GM based concoction, a perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and savory served in a martini glass with a sliver of hot pepper. After a long workday, this titillating libation just hit the spot to help me unwind.

Then came the parade of exquisitely prepared dishes.

Insanely scrumptious Bigeye Tuna Crudo, Burrata, Shrimp Cocktail and of course perfectly charred, medium rate “melts in your mouth” C.A.B. Prime Ribeye Steak from “Classic Steakhouse Menu”.

Oysters galore - fresh and briny and baked three different ways: Rockefeller, Buffalo and New Orleans style; Flounder Stuffed with Crab over potato gnocchi with crab beurre blanc sauce and Creamy Seafood Risotto can all be found on the “Seafood Menu”.

From the “Italian Menu” my favorites were the Fiori Di Zucca - zucchini flowers filled with ricotta, parmesan on truffled corn cream, and Frutti Di Mare Pasta with seafood in Arrabbiata sauce. Ohh, and the RED signature, full platter Chicken Parm is the real deal, this could easily feed several of your dinner companions.

From “RED’s Greatest Hits” I enjoyed Mussels Diavolo smothered in chilies, tomato & garlic sauce. I couldn’t get enough of Fusilli Col Bucco Pasta, perfectly cooked with rich and earthy Porcinis and Black Truffle Cream sauce.

My feast was paired with bold and seductive Torbreck Blend Cuvee Juveniles suggested to me by Nicole MacLean, RED’s General Manager who is a wine guru curating the impressive 400 bottle unique wine list to complement your every meal.

Chef Peter came up to tease us with the colossal Tomahawk Steak (on every week’s menu - hint - hint for those of you who want to impress your dinner party).

Just when I thought I couldn’t eat another bite; desserts were brought to the table and I’m excited like a kid in a candy store. Zeppole, Fried Oreos, Lemon Tartelettes, Raspberry Panna Cotta, and the Chocolate Crème Brûlée. Delightfully rich and indulgent these were the perfect ending to the meal.

A special thank you to the dedicated staff with exceptional service that made this experience unforgettable.

Meat-eaters, Pescatarians, Vegetarians, and Dessert Aficionados alike will find an abundance of dishes to choose from. A perfect place to visit with family and friends or a date night.
