As Miami continues to embrace healthy eating, MIAbites is pleased to introduce a new weekly feature; Wellness Wednesdays. Each week we will share our discoveries of new and not so new spots offering local ingredients, plant-based and healthy dining options.

By now most of us are familiar with The Wynwood Yard, the open air space for creative dining, drinking and community gatherings, created by Founder and CEO Della Heiman in 2015.  Her personal project, della test kitchenoffers healthy, fast, casual dining popular at lunch and dinner.

Now Della has taken this concept “before hours” with new Koba bowls beginning at 10:30 am with a healthy breakfast.

These plant-based bowls are the perfect way to start your day while enjoying the serene setting of mornings in The Wynwood Yard.

Wynwood Yard Della Bowls

We sat with Della this past week to talk and sample the Koba bowls. All of these breakfast bowls have a smoothie base and then a number of toppings and are served in these neat re-useable coconut shell bowls (so don't throw them out).

I had the “Miami Vice” which was incredibly refreshing. The smoothie base was made with Acai, Banana, Blueberries, Strawberries, Maple Syrup and Coconut Water and the artfully placed topping consisted of Granola, Coconut Flakes, Banana, Blueberries and Chia Seeds.

We also sampled the “Isla Morada”, with Dragonfruit, Banana, Papaya, Raspberries and coconut water base with toppings and “Everglades”, a green spinach, avocado, pineapple, mint and almond milk base topped with granola, coconut flakes and goji berries.  All were equally delicious, filling and beautifully presented.

Della continues to encourage people to come and congregate, socialize, or conduct a business meeting in the morning hours now as well. Wynwood Yard has free Wi-Fi and therefore the perfect spot to meet up with business associates, friends, or to get your creative juices flowing, perhaps collaborating with other like-minded individuals or entrepreneurs.

Wynwood Yard Della Coco and George

When you meet Della and the creators of Koba Bowls, Coco Coig and George Sanchez, you are immediately electrified by their passion and enthusiasm behind their products and new business ventures. And during the month of April, the Koba Bowls are Buy One, Get One Half-off!

Yoko Matcha Tea at Wynwood Yard

Also open for the morning hours beginning at 10 am is, Yoko Matcha, a specialty Matcha cafe that serves matcha tea drinks, coffee and other breakfast food items. Matcha is a finely ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea that promotes a boost in your metabolism and creates a focused, no-crash energy. They even make their own cashew milk! The Matcha Hot Chocolate was incredible with white chocolate. matcha and your choice of milk frothed up like a cappuccino and topped with cherry blossom flakes and a flower shaped marshmallow!

Stay tuned for more from this inventive entrepreneurial team. Della shared with us her plans to expand to North Beach in Miami with the same Wynwood Yard concept at the end of 2017,  and her co-creators of Koba Bowls, Coco and George are planning on launching a new restaurant nearby called “Le Chick” in late June.
