Food Rescue US Miami, the philanthropic program extension of MIAbites, has operated its Restaurant Community Meal program since March 2020.

Hosting FREE meals at over 25 different restaurants, the program funds the restaurant to keep staff employed to prepare and package fresh meals, that the Food Rescue US Miami volunteers then distribute right from the restaurant as take out.

Since March over 52,000 meals have been distributed from local Miami restaurants including; Red Rooster Overtown, Alter, Café La Trova, Taquiza, Naomi’s, Clive’s, Yarumba, Shuckin Jivin, Big Mama’s BBQ, Boia De, Stanzione 87, Ash!, Rosie’s at Copper Door and Lil Greenhouse.  On September 11th, in memory of the victims, heroes and first responders, 911 meals were provided to healthcare workers and police and fire from Macchialina, Ember, Society BBQ, Balloo and Café La Trova.

For February, Food Rescue US Miami is proud to announce their partnership with Humanitarian chef, José Andres and his World Central Kitchen. They will be supporting two local Black-Owned restaurants during Black History Month.

Over 700 meals will be provided twice a week at area favorites, Lil Greenhouse in Overtown and Chef Creole in Little Haiti.   Both meal distributions have built a regular following of local food insecure individuals and families, who stop by to pick up food, greet the volunteers, meet the chefs and leave with a chef-prepared meal and their dignity.

Lil Greenhouse Managing Partner/ Creative Lead, Nicole Gates said, “It’s an honor to partner with these organizations who are champions in the battle to combat food insecurity in our most cherished neighborhoods.”

As we begin to slowly recover from the pandemic, and its devastating impact on so many, these free meals continue to provide much-needed nourishment in our most underserved neighborhoods.
