Le Chick in Wynwood: Amsterdam's Original Rotisserie Chicken Spot

One doesn’t really think of Amsterdam as being a food-centric city, now do they?  Except maybe when you have the munchies.  But on De Clercqstraat, a main street in the Dutch city, sits Rotisserie Amsterdam, a popular casual restaurant featuring fried chicken, rotisserie chicken, ribs, burgers and multiple sides.

When co-owner Coco Coig spent time in Amsterdam, he knew he wanted to bring this casual dining concept to Miami and partnered with Jorge Sanchez, and hired Chef Victoria Delloca to re-create some of the successful rotisserie items and add some unique items for Miami’s, Le Chick Rotisserie.

Le Chick on NW 24th St in Wynwood has a sleek interior, featuring an open kitchen when you walk in, lots of natural wood, high top tables, mesh details reminiscent of a chicken coop and two huge Big Green Eggs for smoking meats and that rotisserie chicken.

The menu is varied with plenty of comfort food items and sides, but the cocktail bar and creative menu is not to be passed up. Created by José YeYe Ortega, Best Bubbly cocktail winner at the IBA World Cocktail Championships in Copenhagen, it features a cocktail menu with many named in keeping with the chicken theme.

We were intrigued by the Cock Fight, a mezcal and tequila drink topped with a pickled jalapeno and foam, or Roy the Rooster, with Espolon tequila orange juice and bitters, the Green Machine, made with Hendricks Gin and topped with fresh arugula micro greens.  The Old English Game, is a not too classic old-fashioned with Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Mint syrup, cinnamon, ginger and house-made coffee bitters. Garnished with an orange slice this was the favorite drink of the night.

Starters include Truffled Deviled eggs, Buttermilk Fried Chicken Strips, Brussels Sprouts and Tuna Tartare.

Roasted Carrots were caramelized with an herb yogurt and charred breadcrumbs.  Black Kale Arugula Fennel Salad was nicely dressed in a Kimchi and lemon vinaigrette.  The Truffle fries were topped with plenty of grated cheese and the real deal...shaved truffles

From the dinner menu we were unable to decide between the rotisserie chicken and the ribs, so we opted for both! And an ample portion of each came with sides of a creamy cole slaw and sweet potato fries. Other options included Grilled Salmon.

The Ribs were meaty and coated with an apple BBQ sauce and sesame seeds, and the 1/2 Rotisserie Chicken was juicy and came with a spicy aioli and chimichurri dipping sauce and roasted red skin potatoes.

The Double Dirty Burger is just one of the six burger choices and features two organic beef patties, tomato, lettuce, fried egg, bacon, house pickles and a secret sauce.  Add ons include choice of cheese, avocado, jalapeños and sautéed mushrooms or onions. A Grilled Salmon, Crispy Chicken and Veggie burger are also offered.

The desserts are all created by Coco himself and include a decadent, warm and gooey Chocolate Goodie Jar of warm chocolate brownie, white chocolate chips and vanilla ice cream from neighboring Gelatte.  Banoffee Pie is a thin crust banana and Dulce de leche pie topped with shaved chocolate and Gelatte ice cream. A new addition of creamy cheesecake was topped with orange marmalade.

Open for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch, so if you are in Wynwood and looking for a new spot, peck your way around the construction and stop into Le Chick.
