Belly Fish: A Miami Spice Dinner With a Happy Hour Bonus

With Miami Spice wrapping up October 31, there is still time to discover a new favorite before the promotion ends. Belly Fish in Coral Gables gives seafood lovers plenty of reasons to make a reservation, from its creative sushi menu and polished atmosphere to a happy hour that makes the experience even more appealing.

One of my favorite things about Miami Spice is discovering restaurants that give me a reason to return long after the promotion ends. I recently headed to Belly Fish to try its $50 Miami Spice dinner, and between the variety of the menu, the welcoming service, and the opportunity to pair dinner with happy hour, it made for an enjoyable evening out. It turned out to be the kind of meal that reminds you why this annual dining promotion is worth taking advantage of.

Belly Fish brings a contemporary Japanese-inspired approach to seafood, pairing fresh fish with creative sushi combinations. The space is sleek and thoughtfully designed, with warm lighting, modern minimalist décor, and comfortable banquette seating that gives the restaurant a polished, intimate feel. It is stylish without feeling stuffy, making it a lovely setting for a date night or dinner with friends.

A Miami Spice Menu with Plenty of Choices

One of the appealing things about Belly Fish Miami Spice dinner is the variety. The three-course, $50 prix-fixe menu offers five appetizers, three main-course options, and a selection of desserts, giving diners the flexibility to build a meal around their tastes.

To start, you can choose from Tuna Tostada, Salmon Tostada, Assorted Crispy Rice, Yellowfin Tuna Tataki, or Shrimp Aguachile with Tomatillo Sauce. Whether you prefer the bright, citrusy flavors of aguachile, the crunch of a tostada, or the clean flavors of tuna tataki, there is a nice range of textures and preparations.

For the main course, the choices are a Sushi Combo, Chirashi Bowl, or Broiled Faroe Salmon. The Sushi Combo is ideal for anyone who, like me, has trouble committing tjust one thing. It includes a roll of your choice, two hand rolls, and four pieces of nigiri.

The Chirashi Bowl is a tempting option for sashimi lovers, with assorted sliced fish and avocado served over sushi rice or organic mixed greens. If you prefer cooked seafood, the Broiled Faroe Salmon comes with a choice of sweet miso, smoky chipotle ponzu, or teriyaki, along with charred broccoli and your choice of toppings.

Dessert rounds out the experience with options that include a warm chocolate chip or matcha white chocolate cookie served with vanilla bean ice cream, or a matcha-and pistachio Rice Krispie treat. For an additional $4, diners can upgrade to passion fruit crème brûlée.

What I Ordered

Before getting started with the Miami Spice menu, I couldnt resist ordering a seaweed salad. It was not part of the prix-fixe offering, but sometimes you simply have a craving for a particular dish, and this was one of those moments!

From the Miami Spice selections, I began with the Yellowfin Tuna Tataki, featuring delicate tuna complemented by house ponzu, sesame, scallions, and crispy leeks. The combination brings together bright citrus notes and contrasting textures, while allowing the fish to remain the focus. It was a delicious way to begin the meal.

For my entrée, I went with the Sushi Combo, which let me sample several different preparations rather than settling on a single roll. I chose an eel hand roll and a tuna hand roll, along with the Salmon Lovers Roll and an assortment of nigiri.

I loved the variety of the combination, from the richer, savory flavor of the eel to the more delicate tuna, followed by the salmon roll and the traditional nigiri. For sushi lovers, it is a satisfying way to explore different options in one sitting, and I appreciated having so much variety included in the Miami Spice experience.

Dessert was the matcha-and-pistachio Rice Krispie treat, a playful, nostalgic finish to the meal. After a dinner centered on fresh fish and sushi, it was a fun change of pace and a sweet way to wrap things up.

Great Service Makes a Difference

Beyond the food, the service deserves a mention. Dario and Alex helped make the experience especially enjoyable, adding a welcoming touch to the evening. Attentive, friendly service can make all the difference when dining out, and it is always nice when the people taking care of you contribute to the overall experience.

The Happy Hour Tip You Need to Know ( and I hesitate to share my secret!)

Here is my recommendation: Don’t just come for dinner. Arrive early and take advantage of Belly Fish’s happy hour before settling in for Miami Spice.

Running Monday through Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m., with specials available all day Sunday, Happy Hour offers an appealing way to sample more of the menu. Select pieces of nigiri are priced at $3, select hand rolls at $4, and two pieces of crispy rice at $5. For anyone who enjoys ordering a few small bites to share, those prices make it tempting to try several things before dinner.

The drink specials are equally attractive. A Sapporo lager is just $3, Musahino Pilsner is $4, and select Kawaba beers are $6. Wine lovers can enjoy a glass of Yealands Estate Sauvignon Blanc for $7, while SOTO Premium Junmai sake is also $7. There are additional Japanese sake selections for those who want to explore a little further.

If dinner doesn’t fit your schedule, Belly Fish also offers a $40 Miami Spice lunch menu, making it another option for enjoying the restaurant before the promotion ends.

Make Your Reservation Before Miami Spice Ends

With Miami Spice ending October 31, there is only a short window left to take advantage of the prix-fixe menus. Whether you visit for the $40 lunch or the $50 dinner, consider making happy hour part of the plan, too. It is a great excuse to gather a friend or two, try a few different bites, and enjoy an evening out in Coral Gables.
