Stormy Monday: Cocktails, Bites and Live Music
For years, Macchialina claimed the 820 Alton Road space for their authentic Italian taverna, helmed by James Beard nominated chef, Michael Pirolo with an award-winning wine program from his sister, Jackie.
When Covid closed the indoor space, the next-door vacant hostel became the new home for Macchialina and ultimately the permanent location for the reimagined and expanded Macchilaina.
But the original space with its brick walls and cozy bar remained more or less vacant (with a few pop ups here and there).
Now, the space is alive and buzzing again with a cool cocktail bar with the very appropriate name for South Florida, “Stormy Monday”.
Whimsical puffy clouds dot the ceiling, the menu offers unique and creative cocktails with names like Gardenia Martini, Hey Darling, Mucho Mango, with vodka, shochu and mango chutney and Perfect Storm, with Mount Gay rum, black strap and ginger beer and lime.
The Robert is Here features Remy, tonic and fresh strawberry puree, K.I.S.S offers up vodka, lychee and soda. Plus, frozen drinks mocktails, beer and wine.
The menu is printed with a colorful map of the state of Florida and includes “Bites” like Everglades oysters, Wagyu Tartare with crispy rice chips, creamy smoked fish tio over oori milk bread, and Foie Gras Soup Dumplings. A $65 tasting menu of 5 items is also available.
But you may choose to go for the cocktails and the bites, but it is the live music that will keep you there well past your reservation.
On the night we chose to go, Macchialina’s chef, Trevor Zwann was performing. A Multi- talented singer and guitar player, Chef Trevor, set the mood with a blend of blues, folk and indie rock.
For South Beach, where the “clubstaurant” rules, Stormy Monday offers a chance to unwind, relax and be chill for the evening.
Stormy Monday is of course open on Mondays, plus Thursday, Friday, Saturday from 5 pm- 1 am, plus Sundays 5- 11pm. And Happy Hour 5-7 pm every day.
