UPDATE: MIAbites and Food Rescue US. South Florida

Dear followers of MIAbites:

Thank you so much for your loyalty over the past 5 years! We have watched the Miami food scene grow and progress and are excited about its next chapter post-pandemic.

We will continue to post unique and newsworthy articles about our food-driven community, chef profiles, reviews, and upcoming events, but have added focus and support for our partner nonprofit, Food Rescue US. South Florida.

Launched in 2018, as part of National nonprofit, Food Rescue US, our South Florida site has grown to be a leading organization rescuing unsold/unused food and direct delivering to area shelters, families in need and food insecure neighborhoods.

We rescue now from over 100 food donors, provide food to over 50 social service agencies and have a volunteer rescuer list topping 500. We were even selected by the NFL to rescue at Super Bowl LIV and will be rescuing after every home game at Hard Rock Stadium and from the Formula 1.

Using the Food Rescue US web-based technology and mobile platform, we have kept over 2.0 million lbs. of food from landfills, which helps our environment, as decomposing food produces 24% of all greenhouse gas that is linked to climate change.

If you followed COP26, reducing food waste is one of the few things we can impact together as individuals and as a community.

Today begins early giving for the Miami Foundation’s, Give Miami Day which culminates on Thursday November 18th.

I hope you will consider a donation to Food Rescue US. South Florida and can easily donate through this link:

And I hope you will continue to follow MIAbites on social media on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

Thank you,

Ellen
