Boia De Community Kitchen: Free Meals for our Furloughed Friends

Boia De La Pollita Fried Chicken Sandwich

When we first approached James Beard nominated Chefs Luciana Giangrandi and Alex Meyer of Boia De to be part of our MIAbites/Food Rescue US-Miami Community Kitchen Meal Distribution, we never anticipated the amazing response from our hospitality friends, the Little Haiti and Buena Vista neighbors or from the chefs themselves in support of the free meal program.

The Community Kitchen program which evolved as a response to the COVID crisis, provides funding for the restaurant to employ their staff while also funding meals to be prepared and distributed free as “takeout” to anyone in need: furloughed and laid off employees, local residents, first responders and hospital workers, families and food insecure. Great meals in a respectful setting.

But it is the passion that Chefs Luci and Alex embraced to help feed their friends and neighbors that has made this particular program so unique and inspiring.

Hosted every Tuesday from 2-4 pm for the next 4 weeks as a no-contact walk up or drive up, Boia De’s first meal offering was their legendary La Pollita buttermilk fried chicken sandwich. Topped with their signature slaw and on a sesame bun, In less than two hours over 200 sandwiches were distributed by Food Rescue Miami volunteers.

Boia De FREE Meal Distribution

The next Tuesday menu includes roast pork with herbed rice and cannellini beans and will be available on Tuesday, July 28th from 2-4 while supplies last. Over 250 meals will be prepared for free distribution from an outdoor set up in front of the restaurant at 5205 NE 2nd Ave through the generous funding of The Miami Foundation and Pepsi Foundation.

Please join us, as a volunteer or stop by for a free meal prepared with love and “covidkindness” by Chefs Luci and Alex. PLEASE WEAR A MASK. To volunteer or to make a donation to this program please visit https://foodrescue.us/ and designate Miami.

And keep supporting the local restaurants trying to survive and navigate this strange new Miami.
