Community Kitchen Meal Distributions at Naomi’s Garden Restaurant, Boia De, and Clive’s Café

Be The Rescue

Food Rescue US – Miami has been selected by The Miami Foundation in partnership with The PepsiCo Foundation to receive a $50,000 grant that will be designated to launch community kitchens within the Little Haiti area.

The Community Kitchen Program supports employment for restaurant staff while providing chef-prepared meals free of charge to food-insecure individuals and families, including furloughed and unemployed workers in many of the city’s most underserved areas. The program has also provided meals to frontline workers, Assisted Living Facilites, and local social service agencies.

To date, Food Rescue US - Miami has distributed over 35,000 meals in Overtown, Wynwood, Miami Gardens, Model City, Little Haiti, and Little Havana. Restaurant partners have included Marcus Samuelsson’s Red Rooster Overtown, James Beard Award Finalist Brad Kilgore’s Alter in Wynwood, Celebrity Chef Michelle Bernstein’s Café La Trova in Little Havana, and popular Little Haiti and Miami Gardens spot Chef Creole.

In partnership with Naomi’s Garden Restaurant, Boia De, and Clive’s Jamaican cafe, 5,000 meals will be provided to the Little Haiti community over the next few months. A team of passionate Food Rescue US - Miami volunteers will be onsite to handle the food distribution.

“Our Community Kitchen Program is supporting our local independent restaurant community by putting people back to work to feed those still out of work during this terrible time for Miami. Our chef-prepared meals are packaged as takeout and distributed safely in a no-contact walk-up or drive-up setting and available to anyone in need of a meal,” said Ellen Bowen, Site Director for Food Rescue US – Miami and Managing Director of food blog, MIAbites.
