Wellness Wednesday: Gluten-free dining in South Florida

Welcome to MIAbites newest contributor, Arielle Cole, who is trying to make eating gluten free look and feel good. Today's Wellness Wednesday features her favorite spots for gluten free dining. You can find her dining around South Florida on her Instagram @glutenfreegalpal and Twitter @gfgalpal. She is also a contributing writer for the Huffington Post Taste Section.

My journey with Celiac disease, an auto immune disease in which the ingestion of gluten leads to damage of the small intestine, began in 2014. Although gluten free food options have tremendously increased since that time, there is still a lack of understanding and care for those with my specific dietary need.  So if you're like me, finding a restaurant that offers gluten free options can be extremely difficult. Luckily, I have found a few places in South Florida that fit the bill (and which I frequent very often).

National Oyster Day was Saturday, August 5th... a day eagerly awaited by mollusk lovers all over Miami and beyond.  OK. so you missed it.  BUT, here are the spots that offer some delicious and fresh oysters  Every Day of the Year.  Iced cold oysters are the perfect summer food...high in protein, low in calories, full of zinc and other beneficial minerals, good fat and certainly a better choice for salt cravings than a bag of chips.

There are over 150 varieties of true oysters but actually only 5 species and traditionally they are named after the body of water or bay in which they are grown and are known by a myriad of names such as Wellfleets, Blue Points, Kumamoto and Kuushi.

The flavor varies depending on the type of conditions or Terroir they are grown in; rocky soil, tidal or brackish water, etc. with the Northeast areas of Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Maine providing some of the most delicious and accessible oysters.

Miami is no stranger to these briny bivalve mollusks, and in celebration of National Oyster Day, here are some local options to slurp up a half shell:

Lobster Bar Sea Grille Opens In SoFi

Just around the first of April, Lobster Bar Sea Grille opened in the spot on Washington Avenue and 5th Street that will forever be known by locals as “the old China Grill spot.”

The seafood restaurant is the newest concept from the national award-winning Buckhead Life Restaurant Group of Atlanta, Georgia, and owners of the popular Chops Lobster Bar and City Fish Market in Boca Raton and sister restaurant Lobster Bar Sea Grille in Fort Lauderdale.

Guests are meant to enjoy a sophisticated atmosphere complete with modern-contemporary nautical touches.
